SlowFIT PHILOSOPHIE
“If you really want to enjoy your
life, you have to stay healthy,” says Fausto Di
Guilio, marketing and management co-ordinator of the
Italian Fitness Federation. And to help Italians do
just that, the Federation has linked up with the
Minister of Health and and Italian Orthopaedic
Organsiation to offer a slightly different approach
to fitness.
SlowFIT is inspired by Slow Food,
the international movement opposing the
homogenisation of modern fast food and life. The
SlowFIT system is a personal training and
group training concept suitable
for people with a range of medical conditions
that incorporates exercises from PILATES, YOGA and
FITNESS. Following ACSM
guidelines, the Federation has set up 54 exercise
programmes for conditions ranging from osteoporosis
to hypertension. Using a specially-designed foam
wedge, users of varying abilities can workout
together in group setting, with each person
following their own programme.
The Federations also offers training courses for
instructors wanting to run the classes. The
Federation is currently touring Europe.
A number of clubs have already taken on the system
including Virgin Active, Fitness First and
more.
